hi,

An interesting article M.L! I just want to add my 2 cents to all that.
I think the interlinking as it is now days is doomed to die one day. And why? Thats because the interlinking today is ARTIFICIAL. As You Mindaugas say Yourself, pro webmasters should buy text links, links, but thats artificial. Natural linking is much more important even now days!
So, I think while google and other SE supports this interlinking system where webmasterts decide where they are linking, the mess in the WWW will flourish!!!
It must be done some kind of interlinking or ranking system, where ordinary users are responsible for it. I mean, it would like some kind of voting system or something, where if you like the page, like the content, you tell that to others in one or another way. And only then thrully valuable websites will be in the top search results!
We have tried to implement that system in our "free downlaods" section at www.netgofree.com
There people can submit the links to best software and share their knowledge to the others and let the world know what are the best programs to work with.

Sincerely,
www.netgofree.com
